Kawartha Lakes Public Works/Roads Department

This streaming channel scans 3 City of Kawartha Lakes Roads radio repeaters/towers utilized by the Public Works fleet including Snowplows, Sand/Salt Trucks, Sidewalk Plows, Patrol Supervisors and other Public Works operations.

Winter operations

  • Kawartha Lakes is the second largest geographic municipality in Ontario. They have approximately 5400 lane kilometres to maintain during every winter and/or freezing rain event. That doesnt mean that they have the second largest fleet of trucks to deal with it.
  • Snow plow operations typically begin at 4am and plow routes can take as long as ten hours to complete. Plow operators driving hours are regulated by O. Reg. 555/06 Hours of Service and this limits the number of hours they can drive in any given day.
  • CKL has over 70 snow plow routes throughout Kawartha Lakes with a mix of employee operated and Contractor operated trucks.
