CPKC, CN, and BNSF mainline operations as heard from the north side of Chicago, IL.


Live stream of CPKC, CN, and BNSF mainline railroad operations in and around Chicago, IL.  This feed was recently (late June 2025) upgraded to a Kenwood TK-7180 radio, which brings significantly improved reception and range.  With many more options available now, we are experimenting to find the right mix of frequencies to monitor.

  • 161.100 MHz – BNSF Chicago Sub (Union Avenue Dispatcher / East End Dispatcher).
  • 161.190 MHz – CN Chicago and Joliet Subs (RTC Desk 1).
  • 161.295 MHz – CN Waukesha Sub (RTC Desk 15).
  • 161.475 MHz –CN Leithton Sub (RTC Desk 11).
  • 161.520 MHz – CPKC Elgin Sub (CPKC Elgin Dispatcher / Tower B-17).

 

Equipment: Kenwood TK-7180 paired with a TrainTenna Blade indoor antenna, located on the top floor of a 5-story building on the north side of Chicago.  Broadcast uses Audio Hijack for Mac.
