My feed provides two sources of information in Greene County, IA.
The first is Greene County, Iowa - Fire Dispatch (154.205 MHz). This is used only for setting off pagers and alerting members of calls. There is no fire unit traffic on this channel.
The second is the primary Greene County VHF channel. (153.800 MHz). This is used for the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Greene County Ambulance, all Greene County FDs, and the Jefferson PD.
As near as I can tell, these are the unit numbers heard in Greene County:
- 1-19 - Greene County Sheriff's Office
- 20-29 - Jefferson PD
- 30-39 - Jefferson FD
- 40-49 - Grand Junction FD
- 50-59 - Scranton FD
- 60-69 - Churdan FD
- 70-79 - Rippey FD
- 80-89 - Paton FD
- 90-99 - Greene County Ambulance
Greene County is #37 in the "alphabetical county list" for Iowa, so you'll more times than not hear a unit referred to as "37-xx" on the air.
I am using a old Pro-2096 scanner to feed an old Dell Latitude D520 with the audio. They are both oldies, but they still work! The antenna is a discone at approximately 20' AGL.
NOTE - I am very close to the UP transmission site in Dana. Close enough that when the UP dispatcher keys up that site, it will often blow out the front end on my scanner and I'll lose the Greene County feed. I will need to see if there's a way I can filter that out.
Enjoy!
