Recent outages:
I discovered on March 27, 2023 that the Bearcat III scanner had stopped receiving. After cleaning contacts and such, it seems to be receiving again. I've no idea how long this was an issue but resolved for now.
Change log:
After just a few days using the Uniden BC60XLT-1 instead of the Electra Bearcat III scanner, it became painfully obvious that the BC60XLT-1 is performing much better than the Bearcat III ever did. I suspect that the Bearcat III is out of alignment after the capacitor replacement that I did on it a few years ago. That on top of the 60 cycle hum that the Bearcat has always had since I first received it as a Christmas present some time around 1975 has led to my decision to retire it from this duty. Of course, I will keep it as my first serious radio that I ever owned. So, as of 01-Oct-2025, the change to the Uniden BC60XLT-1 is permanent.
The original Electra Bearcat III scanner has been temporarily replaced with a Uniden BC60XLT-1 as of 28-Sep-2025 tuned to the same five channels plus one additional. This is a trial to see how the BC60XLT-1 performs over time. Added frequency 161.370 MHz which I believe is a frequency used by Amtrak (unconfirmed).
Replaced the stock Bearcat III antenna with a Tram 1487 VHF Land Mobile Base Antenna on 28-Jan-2022
