Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill: October 16th, 2025 at 10:16 AM PDT!
This NOAA Weather Radio station participates in the Great Washington Shakeout Earthquake Drill. At 10:16 AM PDT, this station will interrupt normal broadcast programing with a Required Monthly Test of the Emergency Alert System issued by the National Weather Service in Pendleton, Oregon as part of the statewide earthquake drill for Washington State. This test message will advise you to "Drop, Cover, and Hold Now." Other NOAA Weather Radio stations in Washington, Oregon, and California will also participate and interrupt thier broadcast with similar test messages.
NOAA Weather Radio station WWF56 broadcasts weather information for the Yakima Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, and Foothills of the Blue Mountains of Washington. You will hear weather-related alerts such as Winter Storm Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and Flood Warnings if issued by the NWS in Pendleton, Oregon...or NWS in Spokane, Washington if for Adams or Grant counties. Imminent Threat alerts, such as Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, interrupt the normal broadcast with EAS (Emergency Alert System) tones, which activate SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding) capable equipment, including NOAA Weather Radios. Non-Weather Emergency Messages are no longer relayed unless directly issued by the National Weather Service with a "EAS Activation Requested" header.
