The Scanner is receiving its signal from a tower site located on top of a mountain near Shippensburg/Newburg (commonly referred to as "Three Square Hollow"). The specialized radio system at this tower site receives he Cumberland County Fire -1 Lowband frequency of 46.060 MHz Then .... is "Cross-Band / Simulcasted" out on the UHF frequency of 460.350 MHz .
This radio system/site then allows emergency responders to utilize this UHF for their pagers, etc.; especially with the lack of available Lowband pagers anymore. One other "key benefit" is this UHF frequency provides greater coverage; along with the ability to receive calls while inside buildings, etc;; compared to the Lowband system. This tower site/radio system is Licensed to (and operated/funded) as a "joint effort / cooperation" between the Vigilant Hose Company (Company 52) & Friendship Hose Company in Newville (Company 47). The Transmitter Site (equipment / on-going maintenance / system design /and operation) is maintained by Robert (GIGS) Murray (ie: Radio Maintenance).
This streaming feed is then received from a scanner located at Vigilant Company 52 in Shippensburg; and processed through a computer with the necessary configurations to broadcast the feed.
Additionally; A '2nd' Audio Feed is also provided for Cumberland County, Pennsylvania FIREGROUND OPERATIONS (OPs) TALKGROUPS 2-8. This separate radio system is also located and broadcasting from the above mentioned tower site. A county 800MHz. 'OpenSky' radio is integrated through a repeater controller, which then 'simulcasts' these OP's Talk-Groups 2-8 out on Analog UHF on frequency 453.700 Mhz. This allows personnel to program their scanners or pagers to have the 'OPs' Talkgroups; since OpenSky can not be received on any scanners, etc. This is an alternate Feed being provided; and is available by searching for "Cumberland County Fire OP's".
