BNSF Stampede Sub (West End)

    We hear the Stampede Sub Dispatcher running trains from Auburn, WA to Stampede, WA. In 2013, the BNSF enacted what they call their "Triangle Pool." This crew pool was put into place to allow directional running over the Cascade Mountains. eastbounds over Stampede and westbounds through the Colombia River Gorge. A crew will take a train from Auburn to Pasco and then take a night rest. THey will then take a train from Pasco to Vancouver, WA and take another night of rest. They will then complete the 3rd leg of the trip and bring a train from the Portland/Vancouver area up to the Tacoma/Seattle area, Thus creating a "triangle."You will hear mostly eastbounds, with a few exceptions of locals and baretables that they store at Kanasket from time to time.

Other stuff heard...

Due to the high elevation of the site, you will often hear other transmissions comming from north of Seattle on the Scenic and Bellingham subdivisionsby the North Branch Dispatcher directing trains between Edmonds and Stanwood, Wa. The west Seattle lift bridge which is used to access parts of harbor island, can also be heard.

Technical info:

The stream reciever is located on Baldi Mountain, aproximately 4000 feet above sea level.  The receiver is a Motorola M1225 connected to a Telewave ANT150D-3 2-bay folded dipole antenna fed with LMR-400 coax.  A filter eliminates interference from other radios at the site, and an active multicoupler splits the output of the filter to the multiple radios used for streaming and ATCS at the site.  The antenna is mounted 30 feet above the ground on the side of a 50 foot tower.  The reciever is connected to a Rack Mounted PC running Windows server 2008r2 and Edcast streaming software to encode the audio which is fed to the Shoutcast Distributed Audio Server over a microwave internet link.
