Statewide Medevac Dispatch and Operations

Statewide Medevac Dispatch and Operations from the NJ State Police Trunk Radio on a Uniden BCD536HP Scanner.  This feed also includes the MICU Dispatch Network, Statewide Trauma Center Link, Hospital Emergency Radio Network (HERN) and Statewide EMS Task Force Talk groups as indicated below.  You will hear weekly tests performed on non-medevac talk groups by MICU Dispatch Centers across the state by county on HERN typically starting around 2am EST on Saturday mornings.  REMCS performs weekly tests on the MICU Dispatch network on Saturdays around 9am EST where they perform roll call of each MICU Dispatcher Centers Statewide.  The Statewide Trauma Center Link is also tested on Saturdays around 9:30am EST by REMCS with roll call of each Trauma Center statewide.

Central Simulcast: EMS & Hospitals Talkgroups :

  • Medevac Operations - North Jersey  (South Jersey Medevac Dispatch)

Statewide communications are answered by REMCS (Regional Emergency Medical Communications System of Metropolitan New Jersey) out of the University Medical Center (UMDNJ - Newark).  All statewide Medevac on-scene requests are taken by REMCS and are dispatched first to any airborne Medevacs operating and available within the State (Depending on its location), if none are available then the closest based Medevac is dispatched.  There are no alert tones for dispatching.  You will hear something like "REMCS calling Jemstar2 for a Standby request in Ocean County" or "REMCS to Hackensack Air 1 for the GO request in Monmouth County".  The unit will then respond and acknowledge followed by a request to 'go with the numbers (coordinates)'.  REMCS will then provide the details including coordinates, Landing Zone information, Frequency and on-scene unit contact, closest Trauma Center and nature of call.  Anytime a Medevac is airborne, they check in with REMCS including training and homeland security details.  You will hear them check in when they lift-off/Depart, On-Final, Landed ('Safe on Deck') and when they make 'patient contact'.  REMCS will also request for updates on their location while inflight by stating 'REMCS calling Northstar for Flight Following', Jemstar 1 will then provide their coordinates.  For Medevac5 and Atlantic AirTwo, it is not strange to hear that the patient will be delivered to them at their base by local BLS/ALS.

Inter-facility transports (IHOP) are handled by each individual Medevac's Health System, Hospital association, or MICU Dispatch Center.  Each Medevac will notify REMCS when they are performing an inter-facility transport upon take off from their base.  Medevacs from neighboring states will also check in with REMCS when entering the state on interfacility transports.

Weather will have an impact on the activity on this feed as flights maybe grounded/declined due to weather.  You may still hear REMCS dispatch for a requested standby or GO; however it is up to the discretion of the pilot to determine the safety of the crew and aircraft.  Depending on the location, REMCS may ask the next closest Medevac to see if they are able to handle.
