INTRODUCTION
This feed in not supported or sanctioned by any governmental agency.  It is intended to provide a platform to listen to best shared communications practices among Fire/EMS first responders, to generate general interest in the Fire/EMS service, and to provide transparency to County residents.

Oakland County, Michigan is served by 122 fire departments protecting a population in excess of 1.2 million covering 867 square miles.  The departments are independently organized across governmental and legal districts and are staffed by a combination of paid, paid-on-call, and volunteer firefighter/EMS personnel, depending on the municipality needs and resources.  Fire and EMS dispatch services are provided by a combination of central dispatch operated by the County [https://www.oakgov.com/government/sheriff/law-enforcement/emergency-communications-operations-divisions] and individual municipalities who chose to dispatch themselves.

The County is split into two Fire Mutual Aid Associations (MABAS 3201 [https://www.mabas3201.org/index.php/members ] and MABAS 3202 [http://www.oakway.org/departments.html ] whose primary objective is “to facilitate the sharing of municipal fire service resources and ideas to provide members with a trained, equipped, and coordinated response for all hazards and technical operations beyond their local capabilities.”  The County supports several specialized teams, including: Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, and Incident Management.

ASSOCIATED COMMUNICATIONS FEEDS
The communications feeds are organized as follows:

1.) Oakland County Fire Dispatch Only - All County (P25) [https://m.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/41109]. Monitors and streams all Dispatch activity within the County and limits streaming uploads to communications transmission that are in excess of 8 seconds duration.  The County can be very busy with a great deal of communications traffic.  This feed eliminates most routine traffic (in route, on scene, in service, etc.) and attempts to just focus on primary call dispatch.  It is intended that listeners would monitor this feed for a general awareness and overview of emergency traffic within the County.  Typically extended and/or complex incidents will switch over communications to a designated Tactical/Talk group (covered next).

2.) Oakland County Fire/EMS MABAS 3201 (“North”) - Dispatch/Tac/Talk (P25) [https://m.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/41486].  Generally referred to as “North” although today this geographical proximity is a misnomer as the departments represented here can include those in both the North and South of the County.  Generally, includes departments that have a combination of paid, combined public safety, paid-on-call, or volunteers. This stream monitors all Dispatch/Tactical/Talk groups for all departments included within the stream.

TECHNICAL

These feeds receive non-encrypted digital communications from the Project 25 Phase II Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) [https://www.radioreference.com/db/sid/100].

Communications are received and processed utilizing a dedicated computer with four Software Defined Radio (SDR) dongles connected to four yagi antennas, decoded with SDRTrunk processing software [https://github.com/DSheirer/sdrtrunk], sequenced with Trunking Recorder [http://www.scannerbox.us/TrunkingRecorder/], and uploaded and streamed by Broadcastify [https://m.broadcastify.com/].

Unlike a typical scanner, this software records, sequences, uploads, and streams all communications.  No communications is lost.  However, the upload and recording process results in a 1-2 minute delay in playback and can also result in some recordings being played out of sequence.
